MONTPELIER- A rainy Tuesday morning was not enough to deter the huddled masses yearning to breathe free as more than 500 people marched on the state Capitol to collectively demand that legislators “Put People First.”
Organized by the Vermont Workers’ Center, a coalition of organizations such as Migrant Justice, 350.org, the Vermont...
"Owned & Operated is a mosaic of the world through the lens of the internet. Showing our lives as consumers, under the thumbs of privileged individuals and their methods of control.
But the world is awakening, and the experience is something outside the normal rules of social interaction, causing excitement in those who are not served by the current system... and fear in those who are pampered by it.
This documentary attempts to present these events using the video, audio and written content uploaded to the internet by the collective human consciousness comprised of...
Eight intrepid heroes from the New England Natural Guard affinity group, traveled to New Orleans, the headquarters of nuclear corporation, Entergy. They were there to occupy Entergy HQ on the day that the Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor, owned by Entergy, should have ceased operation. Putting up crime scene tapes and holding banners, the group refused to leave without a meeting with Entergy CEO, J. Wayne Leonard. No meeting happened. 7 of the 8 agreed to be arrested, and were detained and released. Their actions came in solidarity with allies in Vermont, 1,000 of whom marched in Brattleboro,...

Let's be clear: Suzanne Collins' 3 volume "Hunger Games" trilogy is among the most disturbing young adult fiction ever to occupy elementary school library shelves. And?! "Hunger Games" raises more provocative questions about the nature of the human condition at this particular moment in world history than any fiction I've read in a long time. And yes, I am including Harry Potter, the Dragon Tattoo series, and Unbroken in the mix.
I first discovered Collins' "Hunger Games" books 2 years ago, when my daughter's 5th grade teacher (a truly gifted educator we'll call "G") emailed Kate and...

BRATTLEBORO- A beautiful sunny day in Vermont has become the blue-skied witness to over a thousand Vermonters rising up in indignation and anger.
One day after the 40 year contract for the VT Yankee Nuclear Power Plant was set to expire; Vermonters from every corner of the state, of every political stripe, and of every income bracket descended upon the local headquarters of Entergy and in a united voice demanded that Entergy “shut it down”.
Beginning with a massive single file march from downtown Brattleboro and...
Sacred Economics traces the history of money from ancient gift economies to modern capitalism, revealing how the money system has contributed to alienation, competition, and scarcity, destroyed community, and necessitated endless growth. Today, these trends have reached their extreme - but in the wake of their collapse, we may find great opportunity to transition to a more connected, ecological, and sustainable way of being.

Who would possibly want to make a movie about a rogue journalist-turned-murder investigator and a bad-ass goth chick/computer hacker/rape victim who extracts revenge on her assailant by carving epithets into his chest?
If the movie was to be based on Stieg Larsson's wildly popular global smash novel "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," then the answer is "Hollywood," of course. And interestingly, director David Fincher's version of "Dragon Tattoo" is (already) version #2 of Larsson's story to appear on the silver screen (a capable Swedish rendition of the entire trilogy having...
An Occupier from New Hampshire is identified and stared down by Rick Santorum's security force
BURLINGTON: This weekend a group of Vermonters and others from around the country journeyed to the series camps and locations that make up Occupy the Primary in an effort to both confront the GOP candidates about their positions, as well as highlight the tragic farse that the corporate funded election system has created and continues to...

In 2006, in anticipation of my retirement from academia, we bought 160 acres of beautiful land in the central highlands of New Mexico. There we were going to live out our cowboy fantasy by raising horses and riding them on my rancher friend’s cattle roundups. The high desert land was covered with grass, juniper, and some Pinyon pine trees, and offered a spectacular view of the Manzano Mountains. The land sat atop the Chupadera Mesa about 13 miles outside of Mountainair and six miles off the main road. Santa Fe was only an hour and a half to the North.
One beautiful March day, my rancher friend, and real deal ex-bull...
